Last month, Macon-Bibb’s Mayor Lester M. Miller proclaimed September Adult Education and Family Literacy Month. Representing a marked increase in attention and events from the previous week-long initiative, Literacy Month promotes the importance of literacy not just in children but in every generation.

Dellacona Law Firm had the honor of helping to promote several events in this opening year, including a Neighborhood Cleanup & Community Garden Day, Miss Georgia and Miss Teen Georgia’s Educational School Tour, and the Truth about Reading Movie Night at the historical Douglass Theatre.

Mayor Miller’s goal is to raise the literacy and reading rate in Bibb County by 50% in the next ten years, focusing on not just child and adult literacy, but family literacy, digital literacy, environmental literacy, reentry literacy, and workforce development. Mayor Miller is encouraging the multi-generational emphasis to stimulate economic maneuverability for Macon-Bibb residents and help them achieve better outcomes as they bring down crime.

We’ve long supported the Bibb County School District, and are grateful to help our community expand the impact of education outside the classroom.
